Proverbs 9:10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.KJV
He saw the gum on the counter and he knew his Dad was busy talking to his friend. As he was wondering how deep his pocket was and how he could slip it by his Dad, he remembered what his Dad had told him not even a week earlier when he told his Dad he wasn't afraid of anything. He had said "Son in some cases fear is a good thing. Fear can keep us from doing things that we shouldn't do and keep us from taking chances we shouldn't take. Just like me son, I fear my Heavenly Father because if I sin, I'll have to suffer the consequences. But not only do I fear Him, I also love and respect Him and He loves me. So when you start to do something you shouldn't do and you feel that fear, that's a reminder that God is with you and He is always watching". Needless to say he didn't take the gum and that day marked the beginning of wisdom for that little boy.
With so much sin and corruption in the world today we as Christians face new challenges. Ask yourself this question "Does what I wear, what I say, who I follow, where I go, and what I do honor God?" If you fear God you'll gain wisdom and all of these aspects of your life will be in harmony with His word. Sure we can be forgiven for our sins but, do you really want the God of all creation who loves you so dearly to be disappointed in you?
Proverbs 10:1 The proverbs of Sol'omon. A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother.
