As some of you may know, we had to place my Dad in a nursing home last week because of his illness. We were all convinced that Dad was soon going to receive his promotion the glory. Praise the Lord! We were wrong. Dad has bounced back with all flags waving!
He called me today asking me to bring him his guitars. He said these people that come up here to sing are asking me to set in with them and I don't have my electric guitar or my bass. I asked him if they let him bring amps in the Nursing Home and he said I do it all the time and I said but Dad that was before you moved in! God bless him. Dad sure does brighten up his corner. I can almost smell the pancakes and sausage cooking as Dad prepared our Sunday breakfast, like he did every Sunday morning. I'll never forget him asking me "Ginny, do you want white syrup or brown?" Then he'd help Mom get us all ready for Church. He was the first one to arrive at Church and he always had the heat or air running so everyone else would be comfortable. Then he'd teach Sunday School and lead the congregation in those beautiful old hymns. After Church we would all load into the Chevrolet Stationwagon and go out to lunch. After lunch we'd take a Sunday drive through the country and listen as Dad told us the same old stories that we'd heard last Sunday. But, we didn't mind. Somehow it just seemed right. We were all together, happy, and secure with Dad at the wheel.
My heart broke this week as I had to put my sweet Dad in a nursing home. I know it's what is best for him but it hurts just the same. I know God's grace is sufficient. His mercy endureth forever because of grace. Proverbs 9:10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.KJV
He saw the gum on the counter and he knew his Dad was busy talking to his friend. As he was wondering how deep his pocket was and how he could slip it by his Dad, he remembered what his Dad had told him not even a week earlier when he told his Dad he wasn't afraid of anything. He had said "Son in some cases fear is a good thing. Fear can keep us from doing things that we shouldn't do and keep us from taking chances we shouldn't take. Just like me son, I fear my Heavenly Father because if I sin, I'll have to suffer the consequences. But not only do I fear Him, I also love and respect Him and He loves me. So when you start to do something you shouldn't do and you feel that fear, that's a reminder that God is with you and He is always watching". Needless to say he didn't take the gum and that day marked the beginning of wisdom for that little boy. With so much sin and corruption in the world today we as Christians face new challenges. Ask yourself this question "Does what I wear, what I say, who I follow, where I go, and what I do honor God?" If you fear God you'll gain wisdom and all of these aspects of your life will be in harmony with His word. Sure we can be forgiven for our sins but, do you really want the God of all creation who loves you so dearly to be disappointed in you? Proverbs 10:1 The proverbs of Sol'omon. A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother. |
